This month there is a small exhibition at Abbott and Holder (of which Diana Athill's nephew Philip is managing director) called 'The Camp in the Oatfield' 1915. Ten oil paintings by Victor Tardieu (1870-1937) record the tented field hospital established and run by Millicent, Duchess of Sutherland (1867-1955) at Bourbourg, twelve miles south-west of Dunkirk. (It is rather frivolous to say this, but the striped awning has a very Harold Harvey feel, cf. the article on 'The Two Painter Harolds' in the new Persephone Biannually being sent out this week.)
